The harder they come
Posted from Sant Carles de la Ràpita, Catalonia, Spain.
The hardest stage so far! This morning I had some “heavy legs”, I noted the kilometers of the previous days, so it cost me a while to get into the rhythm. At the first coffee break I took a decision which I would regret soon: I decided to ignore my navi and take a shorter route through a National Park between Alcossebre and Peñiscola. While the landscape really was spectacular – pine trees, lonely beaches, unspoiled nature without any buildings, I thought this would not exist anymore at the whole spanish mediterranean coast – the track was a nightmare. I had to go over 15 km on a dusty and bumpy pebble path with my fully packed trecking bike with the thin tires. No real pleasure!
With the bad road I also progressed rather slowly, I was more than 6 hours on the bike today. Finally I made it to Sant Carles de la Rápita in the Ebro delta. I have left the Comunidad Valenciana and have entered Catalonia.
The good news is that my knees are going well. Now the butt is more of a problem, especially on the last 20 km today. Isn´t there anything like Voltaren for my best part?
Todays route: 112,96 km
Interesting disovovery about the national park and the unspoilt beaches. Onward!
You are our hero Michael!!
You are really moving along Michael – enjoy !
Respekt!
happy to hear about your knees. and impressed about the distances you are doing.
Mucho animo!!!
